Ascona Workshop 2017: Statistical Challenges in Single-Cell Biology

This interdisciplinary workshop is intended to be a forum for the dissemination of cutting-edge biotechnological and computational developments and the identification of open data analysis problems and solutions. Targeted areas for the workshop include: novel experimental techniques for single-cell analysis, statistical models of cell-to-cell variation, data integration, and applications of single-cell genomics to somatic variation in development and disease. The workshop will take place from April 30 to May 5, 2017 in Ascona, Switzerland. Application deadline is January 15, 2017.

Store and Supply – How the Brain Saves Time

Neurons in the brain store RNA molecules – DNA gene copies – in order to rapidly react to stimuli. This storage dramatically accelerates the production of proteins. This is one of the reasons why neurons in the brain can adapt quickly during learning processes. The recent results of a research group at the University of Basel’s Biozentrum have been published in the current issue of “Neuron”. This research was supported by a SystemsX.ch Transition Postdoc Fellowship.

SystemsX.ch Postdoc Workshop November 2016

For the third time, SystemsX.ch organized a Postdoc workshop on leadership and management skills. The two-day course in Muri bei Bern addressed the human aspects of doing science, in order to influence and support both the present scientific work and future careers of the participating  postdocs. The workshop was run by hfp consulting, a company which exclusively focuses on training and coaching life scientists.

3rd International SystemsX.ch Conference on Systems Biology

The third and final International SystemsX.ch Conference will bring together world-class scientists from a variety of disciplines who apply quantitative and systems-wide approaches to research in the life sciences from September 4-7, 2017 in Zurich. The conference will take place at the ETH Zurich, with the opening day in the main building (Zentrum) and the following three days in Hönggerberg. This event will represent the conclusion of the SystemsX.ch initiative. The program will reflect the current state-of-the-art in the now maturing field of systems biology research, highlighting quantitative approaches at multiple scales, from single molecules and cells to whole tissues and organisms.
