All SystemsX.ch Day 2013: New Registration Deadline
The All SystemsX.ch Day 2013 takes place May 13 at the “Zentrum Paul Klee” in Bern. The one-day event offers participants an ideal platform to share knowledge and to learn about the current activities of the network organization SystemsX.ch. Furthermore, the conference aims to enable new partners and scientists to make contacts and to lay foundations for new research collaborations. Registration deadline is April 17, 2013.

Susan Gasser appointed to EU Science Advisory Council
Susan Gasser, Director of the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research, joins the newly installed Science and Technology Advisory Council of the European Commission. This council provides direct advice to the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, on how to create an environment for innovation in Europe. more »
Einblick in die Schaltzentralen der Zellkommunikation
Zahlreiche Prozesse in unserem Körper wie das Sehen, Riechen oder Schmecken werden durch eine wichtige Familie von Sensoren auf der Oberfläche von Zellen bewerkstelligt, die man G-Protein-gekoppelte Rezeptoren (GPCR) nennt. Forscher des Paul Scherrer Instituts haben nun zusammen mit Kollegen aus Grossbritannien die bislang bekannten räumlichen Strukturen von GPC-Rezeptoren verglichen und ein stabilisierendes Gerüst von feinen Verstrebungen entdeckt, das charakteristisch ist für die Architektur der gesamten GPCR-Familie. Das Wissen um diese im Lauf der Evolution konservierten Baumerkmale kann für die Entwicklung neuer Medikamente von erheblichem Nutzen sein. weiter »
