SystemsX.ch: 10th call submissions

With the 10th call, SystemsX.ch invited the Swiss systems biology community to submit proposals for the new category of Medical Research and Development (MRD) Projects. These large, interdisciplinary projects concerning medically and ideally clinically based research will be funded for 3 years. Additionally, SystemsX.ch called again for proposals for Transfer Projects (TF) which foster collaborations between academia and the private sector. The outcome: 30 MRD and 4 TF proposals were submitted.

In contrast to previous SystemsX.ch calls for proposals, which focused more on systems biology basic research, the 10th call explicitly requested medical or clinical topics to be addressed. It was highly recommended that the main applicant should have a background other than biology.

In total, 30 consortia involving more than 180 research groups submitted their MRD proposals before the submission deadline of July 31, 2014. More than 70 percent of main applicants are medical doctors, and only 20 percent biologists. As usual, the review procedure involves both the SystemsX.ch SEB and the SNSF Review Panel.

Results will be communicated in early November 2014.
