New chairman of SystemsX
Zurich. 6.11.2006. thm. Prof. Konrad Osterwalder, Rector of ETH Zurich, is the new chairman of SystemsX. He follows Prof. Ernst Hafen who stepped down as President of ETH Zurich on November 1, 2006. Konrad Osterwalder will chair SystemsX until the Partners’ Meeting of SystemsX elects another chairman, or, a new President of ETH Zurich will elected by ETH Board and Swiss Government.

Making Sense of Systems Biology Data
Zürich. 6.7.2006. thm. Systems biologists at the Institute of Molecular Systems Biology and at the Institute of Process Engineering of ETH Zurich have developed a mathematical method to gain biological insight from high-through-put metabolical data. The method called «Network-Embedded Thermodynamic Analysis» is published in the e-journal «Molecular Systems Biology».
SystemsX starts new Scientific Node and Glue Projects
Basel/Zürich. 13.06.06. thm. SystemsX, the Swiss Initiative in Systems Biology has started a new Scientific Node. The Center for Systems Bacterial Infections (C-SBI) at the Biocenter of Univerisity of Basel will model the network of interactions between pathogenic bacteria and varios cell types of the host organism. The aim is to find new ways of preventing or treating infectious diseases and uncontrolled inflammatory responses. At the same time, the Partners’ Meeting approved the first Glue Project of SystemsX. The Center for Cellular Imaging and Nanoanalytics (CINA) will develop novel analytical tools to determine the proteome of single cells. Furthermore the building up of a second Glue Project, the Center for Information Sciences and Databases (CISD) has started.

Renato Paro designated Director of Center of Biosystems
March 9, 2006. Zürich/Basel.Renato Paro will be the director of the Center of Biosystems of ETH Zurich in Basel. He was appointed Professor for Biosystems at ETH Zurich by the ETH Council. The designation of Renato Paro is also a great leap forward for SystemsX, the Swiss Initiative in Systems Biology. (more)
