SystemsX.ch is looking for a SyBIT ProjectManagerSystemsX.ch is the Swiss Initiative in Systems Biology combining Switzerlandʼs strengths in genomics and biomedical research with its flourishing core sciences aschemistry, mathematics, physics and engineering. In a paradigm shift biology is moving from a descriptive, qualitative science to a predictive, quantitative one.SystemsX.ch is set up of eleven partner institutions: ETH Zurich, EPF Lausanne, the Universities of Basel, Bern, Fribourg, Lausanne, Geneva and Zurich, the Paul Scherrer Institute, the Friedrich Miescher Institute and the SwissInstitute for Bioinformatics.As an important IT backbone for SystemsX.ch, the project SyBIT is expected to provide the necessary hardware and software needs of the eight Research-, Technology, and Development (RTD) projects which have been approveduntil now, and in the future, also for additional projects.SyBIT consists of two entities: one team at Department Biosystems Science and Engineering D-BSSE (Basel) and one at Vital-IT (Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics inLausanne). Both teams have expert skills and many years of experience in the fields of software engineering, data modelling, system and database administration, and biology. Project Manager

Tasks and Duties
The Project Manager will be responsible for setting up a coherent management structure for this large IT project and for the overall supervision and implementation of the approved projects and tasks. The successful candidate will
identify, evaluate, coordinate and integrate SystemsX.ch RTD needs. The Project Manager is responsible for pooling requirements and needs, which are put forward by the RTD projects. Decisions will be made jointly by the Project Manager and the Scientific Executive Board (SEB) of SystemsX.ch. He/she has budget responsibility for the funds allocated to SyBIT. Also, the Project Manager is expected to raise additional funds for the IT-backbone outside of SystemsX.ch.

Requirements
As a Project Manager of a large computational infrastructure initiative, managerial skills and several years of experience in the domains of information technology and
bioinformatics as well as with research projects are required. SystemsX.ch is looking for a strong and flexible candidate that also takes great interest in communicating with interdisciplinary research groups all over Switzerland.
The person shall take responsibility and implement SyBIT with an efficient organization structure including financial planning. The language of communication is mainly English. Working knowledge of German and/or French is desirable.


Remarks
The Project Manager of SyBIT will be employed by the Swiss Institute for Bioinformatics. The office will be either at the SystemsX.ch Management Office or in one of the RTD sites. The SyBIT pool consists of about 10 full time equivalents, necessary hardware and specific funds.
