X-Flash – The electronic News Service of SystemsX.ch
This is our first X-Flash, the electronic email service of SystemsX.ch. From now on you will receive news from SystemsX.ch in this way. The X-Flash complements our X-Letter, a quarterly magazine on Systems Biology activiities in Switzerland and the international realm.

A new chance for funding.Second SystemsX.ch Call for Proposals
SystemsX.ch, the Swiss Initiative in Systems Biology, is issuing its Second Call for Proposals. Please download the Call from the SystemsX.ch website.
SystemsX.ch will fund several Research, Technology and Development (RTD) Projects with up to 6 Million CHF (to be matched by resources of the participating institutions) over 4 years. A maximum of 28 million CHF is available for RTDs of this second Call. The aim is to support a relatively low number (5 to 7) of well integrated RTD projects. The study of biological systems requires a highly interdisciplinary approach. Special attention will be given to the following topics: (i) Technology development, (ii) Systems Biology at the interface of medical research, and (iii) Systems Biology at the interface to genomics.
In order to educate Systems Biology scientists of the future, SystemsX.ch will fund about a dozen Interdisciplinary PhD (IPhD) Projects over 3 years. The PhD students are to be mentored by two faculty members from different disciplines relevant to Systems Biology. About ten Interdisciplinary Pilot Projects (IPP) will be funded to conduct seed and high-risk Systems Biology research. These one year projects should be highly innovative and typically difficult to fund via other granting institutions.
Proposals for all project types have to be submitted by January 15th, 2009. Proposals for RTDs and IPhDs will be evaluated by an international review panel of the Swiss National Science Foundation, IPPs by the SystemsX.ch Scientific Executive Board.
Further information on this Call for proposals and SystemsX.ch in general will provided at the All-SystemsX.ch Day on October 16, 2008, in Basel. Please find the program (as pdf) and registration info under http://www.systemsx.ch/index.php?id=71.
