International Conference on Systems Biology of Human Disease
The International Conference on Systems Biology of Human Disease (SBHD 2012) takes place on May 2-4 in Heidelberg. The SBHD 2012 is continuing a conference series launched some years ago at Harvard Medical School and has developed into a transatlantic event and communication platform for scientific exchange between The United States and Germany. It is focusing on mammalian systems biology, particularly as it applies to human disease and therapy. SBHD website
FMI director Susan Gasser receives highly esteemed Inserm International Prize
Dec 2011. Susan Gasser, director of the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research of the Novartis Research Foundation, receives today the highly esteemed Inserm Prix International in Paris, for her outstanding scientific contributions to the field of epigenetics. She is honored for her lifetime achievements, which contribute to our understanding of the genetic processes that drive cancer, cell type differentiation and aging. Since 2004, the Inserm Prix International has been awarded by the Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médical in Paris.

Of particular interest in this session was the broad range of applications of synthetic biology methods showing how advances produced over the past years are successfully being applied to solve real world problems and opening possibilities for research and industry.
