Only two weeks to go until the registration deadline for the SystemsX.ch Retreat! Join the four-day course from May 24–27, 2016 in Münchenwiler, Switzerland. The event will focus on career development for young scientists. The goal of this retreat is to give participants a competitive edge in the job market. The target audience is PhD students and postdocs of the SystemsX.ch community.

Free registration for SBHD 2016

SystemsX.ch is sponsoring the International Conference on Systems Biology of Human Disease (SBHD) 2016, which will take place at the Broad Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts from June 14–16. We are offering free registration to 15 participants. If you are interested, send an email to eavan.dorcey(at)systemsx.ch by May 14. These free registrations will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.

Save the date – 3rd International SystemsX.ch Conference 2017

We are pleased to announce the dates for the 3rd International SystemsX.ch Conference, which will take place on September 4–7, 2017 at the ETH Zurich. This will be the initiative’s final conference, bringing together the SystemsX.ch community one last time. The conference will focus on the results coming out of the final wave of SystemsX.ch projects, as well as include an excellent program of international speakers. Please mark the dates of this important event in your calendar.

A different approach to supporting young scientists

A postdoc’s role is demanding and multifaceted. It brings a lot of responsibility, for example when supervising students, without embodying a formal leadership role. Postdocs find themselves in a sort of “sandwich position” between research group leader and student, and are expected to simultaneously teach and conduct their own studies. Besides that, they also have to concentrate on furthering their own careers. The participants at this year’s Postdoc Workshop learned how to identify and cope with the different roles required of them as postdocs. More »
