Every year SystemsX.ch publishes detailed reports on all its activities. These include scientific and financial reports that are sent to the boards and authorities. They can also be downloaded here. Please note: the reports are only available in English.
The Scientific Report 2014-2015
The main activities in the current reporting period (from September 2014 to August 2015) were the 11th and 12th SystemsX.ch calls for proposals, which generated a total of 109 proposals. The European Research Network (ERA-Net) for Applied Systems Biology, ERASysAPP, launched its second joint transnational call for projects and approved 5 projects involving international research consortia. In 2015, IBM Research - Zurich (IBM) and Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) became SystemsX.ch partners. Hence, the partnership now comprises 15 institutions.
New projects funded
During the reporting year a total amount of approximately CHF 26.7 million has been approved for 41 new projects: nine Medical Research and Development Projects (MRD), two Transfer Projects (TF), eight Transition Postdoc Fellowships (TPdF), ten Interdisciplinary PhD Projects (IPhD), nine Special Opportunity Projects and two ERASysAPP projects. SyBIT, the SystemsX.ch bioinformatics project, was granted approximately CHF 1.5 million for one year.
Collaboration with the private sector
Eight Transfer (TF) projects have been active in this reporting period. These projects aim to encourage exchange between the private and public sectors, a goal which was initially established with the Bridge to Industry Projects (BIP).
Activities of the SystemsX.ch community
The four strategic themes on which SystemsX.ch has focused since its creation in 2008 are:
- Excellent, interdisciplinary and inter-institutional science
- Supporting education and training
- Promoting public-private partnerships
- International outreach, visibility and recognition
The contributions of the various SystemsX.ch projects towards these goals are detailed in the respective reports. In addition, the initiative established new activities to address these four focal points.
The 2016 Financial Report
The financial report predominantly details the distribution and use of funds granted to SystemsX.ch by the federal authorities. Since SystemsX.ch's partner institutions are obliged to provide their own contributions to match these funds, the report also covers these figures.
In 2016, SystemsX.ch distributed a total of CHF 27.4 million, of which 26.4 million were invested in the direct support of research projects. CHF 1.0 million went into administration, quality control by the Swiss National Science Foundation and research promotion and networking events.
